Once there was a young girl in the beautiful valley who would wait for the sun to appear in the morning only to enjoy its warmth, during the cold autumn days. She would spread a mat in her small and cosy lawn and take out all her toys and play as long she could, till her mother would call her to come in for lunch. The thought of going inside felt uncomfortable as she imagined the cold inside. Her face lit up with the warmth of the sun and she would feel gloomy on those days when the sun did not appear. She got very curious about this ball of fire and would ask her parents, questions about the same. She wanted to meet the sun and play with it, tell the sun how much it’s existence meant to her and how it made her happy and jubilant. She found answers to her many questions but could not bear the only answer that “the sun was beyond anyone’s reach.”
Day after day she grew sad and her desire to meet this source of her existence grew stronger and stronger. She became ill, wouldn’t eat or sleep well. Then one fine day the sun appeared in her dream only to ask her why she was sad. The girl replied, “You have been my companion for many years, when you appear my heart leaps with happiness, when your rays touch me, I feel the life running into me only to make me feel more worthwhile. You give me energy to live and yet you can never be with me, why?” the sun replied, “ I was born to nurture you ,give you the smile which I have seen on your lips, make you see meaning in your life , however the only precondition to this is that I have to be away from you. I will watch over you and you will feel my presence from a distance, which will allow me to perform the role which has been assigned to me and also let you live a life that you must live. If we meet then this world that you see around us will disappear.”
Finally the sun said, “Our relationship is meaningful only due to the separation between us, the places each one of us is assuming. I cannot go away from your life as long as you live and you in turn make my existence meaningful so you can’t leave me either. Never shall we meet my dear, but I love you as much as you love me.”
